第十七章
EN
The existence of the best ruler is barely known to the

最上の君主は、民はただ

people.
JA
その存在を知るのみ。
EN
Next is one who they love and praise.
JA
その次は、民がこれを親しみ誉める。
EN
Next is one who they fear.
JA
その次は、民がこれを畏れる。
EN
Next is one who they ridicule.
JA
その次は、民がこれを侮る。
EN
If the ruler does not trust enough, then he will not have
JA
信足らざれば、
EN
anyone’s trust.
JA
信ぜられざるなり。
EN
Thoughtful!, he values his words.
JA
悠として、その言を貴ぶ。
EN
When tasks are accomplished and duties are successful,
JA
功成り事遂げて、
EN
The 100 families all say “we are naturally so”.
JA
百姓みな「われ自ずから然り」と曰う。
