第三十四章
EN
Great Dao is like a vast flood!
JA
大道は氾として、
EN
It is able to flow left and right.
JA
その左右すべし。
EN
The ten thousand creatures depend on it in order for life,
JA
万物はこれに恃りて生じて、
EN
And are not rejected.
JA
辞せず。
EN
It accomplishes its tasks successfully,
JA
功を成して、
EN
Yet does not possess a name.
JA
名を有せず。
EN
It clothes and supports the ten thousand creatures,
JA
万物を衣養して、
EN
But does not act as their master.
JA
主と為らず。
EN
Therefore : since it is ever-constantly without-desire,
JA
常に無欲なれば、
EN
It can then be named insignificant.
JA
名づけて小と為すべし。
EN
Since the ten thousand creatures return to it
JA
万物これに帰して
EN
But it does not act as their master,
JA
主と為らざれば、
EN
It can then be named great.
JA
名づけて大と為すべし。
EN
Thus the sage can achieve greatness
JA
ここをもって聖人はよくその大を成す、
EN
Because he does not act great.
JA
その自ら大と為さざるを以て、
EN
Therefore he can achieve greatness.
JA
故によくその大を成す。
