When you are about to gather something,

将にこれを歙めんと欲すれば、

You must have originally spread it out.
JA
必ず固くこれを張れ。

When you are about to weaken something,
JA
将にこれを弱めんと欲すれば、

You must have originally strengthened it.
JA
必ず固くこれを強くせよ。
EN
When you are about to abandon something,
JA
将にこれを廃せんと欲すれば、
EN
You must have originally been interested in it.
JA
必ず固くこれを興せ。
EN
When you are about to seize something,
JA
将にこれを奪わんと欲すれば、
EN
You must have originally given it.
JA
必ず固くこれを与えよ。

This is called subtle and obscure insight.
JA
これを微明と謂う。
EN
What is soft and weak conquers what is hard and strong.
JA
柔弱は剛強に勝つ。
EN
Fish can not escape from the deep;
JA
魚は淵より脱すべからず。
EN
The sharp tools of the nation
JA
国の利器は、

Can not be shown to the people.
JA
以て人に示すべからず。
