EN
Heaven and earth are not kind –

天地は仁ならず、

Thus the ten thousand creatures become as straw dogs to

万物を以て芻狗と

them.
JA
なす。
EN
The sage is not kind –
JA
聖人は仁ならず、
EN
Thus the 100 families become as straw dogs to him.
JA
百姓を以て芻狗となす。
EN
The space between heaven and earth,
JA
天地の間、
EN
How is it just like a bellows or flute?
JA
それなお橐籥のごときか。
EN
It is empty, yet does not run out.
JA
虚にして屈せず、
EN
The more it moves, and the more it produces.
JA
動けば動くほど出づ。
EN
Too much talking is exceptionally exhausting,
JA
多言はまことに数しく窮す、
EN
Which is not as good as maintaining what is within.
JA
中を守るに如かず。
