第七十五章
EN
The citizens are hungry
JA
民の飢うるは、

Because their superiors eat too much of their taxes.
JA
その上の税を食らうこと多きを以てなり。

Thus they are hungry.
JA
ここを以て飢う。
EN
The citizens are hard to govern
JA
民の治め難きは、
EN
Because their superiors are compelled to take action.
JA
その上の為すことあるを以てなり。
EN
Thus they are hard to govern.
JA
ここを以て治め難し。
EN
The citizens take death lightly
JA
民の死を軽んずるは、
EN
Because they seek the substance of life.
JA
その生を求むるの厚きを以てなり。
EN
Thus they take death lightly.
JA
ここを以て死を軽んず。
EN
Now : only he who has no use for being alive
JA
それ唯だ生を以て為すことなき者は、
EN
Is virtuous compared to he who values living.
JA
生を貴ぶ者よりも賢なり。
