EN
What is wrong then becomes whole and perfect.
JA
曲なれば則ち全し。
EN
What is bent then becomes straight.
JA
枉なれば則ち直し。
EN
What is hollow then becomes filled.
JA
窪なれば則ち盈つ。
EN
What is worn out then becomes new.
JA
敝なれば則ち新たなり。
EN
Have little, then gain.
JA
少なければ則ち得。
EN
Have too much, then become confused.
JA
多ければ則ち惑う。
EN
Thus the sage :

ここをもって聖人は、
EN
Embraces the One, thus serving as an example to the
JA
一を抱きて天下の式と
EN
world –
JA
なる。
EN
He does not display himself, therefore he has insight.
JA
自ら見さず、故に明なり。
EN
Does not consider himself correct, therefore he
JA
自ら是とせず、故に
EN
distinguishes himself.
JA
彰なり。
EN
Does not boast about himself, therefore he possesses
JA
自ら伐らず、故に
EN
merit.
JA
功あり。
EN
Does not brag about himself, therefore he endures.
JA
自ら矜らず、故に長し。
EN
Now : only because he does not strive,
JA
それ唯だ争わず、
EN
Therefore no one in the world can strive against him.
JA
故に天下よくこれと争う者なし。
EN
That which the ancients say :
JA
古の所謂、
EN
“He who is wrong then becomes whole and perfect” –
JA
「曲なれば則ち全し」と、
EN
How can these be empty words?
JA
あに虚言ならんや。
EN
Be truly whole and perfect, and return to it.
JA
誠に全くして、これに帰せよ。
