第三十一章
EN
Now : fine weapons, they are not tools of good fortune.
JA
それ兵は不祥の器なり。
EN
Creatures detest them, no matter what.
JA
物あるいはこれを悪む。
EN
Therefore : he who possesses Dao does not live by them.
JA
故に有道の者は処らず。
EN
When a noble man is in his dwelling, then he honors the
JA
君子は居れば則ち左を貴び、
EN
left.
JA
兵を用いれば則ち右を貴ぶ。
EN
When he commands troops, then he honors the right.
JA
兵は不祥の器にして、
EN
Weapons, they are not tools of good fortune.
JA
君子の器にあらず。
EN
They are not the tools of a noble man.
JA
やむを得ずしてこれを用いるとき、
EN
When he has no choice but to use them,
JA
恬淡を上と為す、
EN
To be calm and indifferent is superior –
JA
勝ちて美とせざるなり。
EN
Never pleased, indeed!
JA
而してこれを美とする者は、殺人を楽しむなり。
EN
And he who is pleased enjoys killing people.
JA
それ殺人を楽しむ者は、
EN
Now : he who enjoys killing people
JA
天下に志を得べからず。
EN
Can not get what he desires from the world!
JA
故に吉事には左を尚び、
EN
Therefore : in fortunate affairs honor the left,
JA
凶事には右を尚ぶ。
EN
In unfortunate affairs honor the right.
JA
偏将軍は左に居り、
EN
Thus the assistant general of the army resides on the left,
JA
上将軍は右に居る。
EN
The supreme general of the army resides on the right.
JA
すなわち喪礼を以てこれに処ると言うなり。
EN
Thus we say they are dwelling at a funeral :
JA
人を殺すこと衆ければ、
EN
When many people are killed,
JA
悲哀を以てこれを泣き、
EN
Then mourn and weep with grief for them.
JA
戦い勝てば、
EN
Victory in war thus means they will dwell at a funeral.
JA
喪礼を以てこれに処る。
