難をその易に図り、

Act on the great while it is tiny.

大をその細に為す。

In the world, difficult duties certainly start while easy.

天下の難事は必ず易より作り、

In the world, great duties certainly start while tiny.
JA
天下の大事は必ず細より作る。

Thus the sage in the end does not act great,

ここを以て聖人は終に大を為さず、

Therefore he can achieve his greatness.
JA
故によくその大を成す。

Men who make promises lightly, certainly few will trust.
JA
それ軽く諾する者は必ず信少なく、

Men who expect most duties to be easy will certainly have
JA
易しとすること多ければ
EN
many difficulties.
JA
必ず難多し。
EN
Thus the sage plans for things to be difficult,
JA
ここを以て聖人は猶おこれを難しとす、
EN
Therefore in the end he is without difficulty!
JA
故に終に難なし。
